Make Your Home Cozy in Spring and Summer
As I write this I am staring at a fresh blanket of snow outside my living room window. A fire crackles in our wood-burning stove. I have a cup of warm tea beside me and a toddler snuggled up in my lap. There is no doubt that we are right in the middle of the official cozy season.
Cozy season? Which Season is That?
Even though we are, in fact, in the middle of cozy season I know that the first day of spring is only weeks away. Garden planning is in full swing and many of us are already dreaming of the first flowers of the year. This makes me wonder, why the cozy season is designated as only fall and winter. Why can we only be cozy when it’s cold?
If you ask most people what they think of when they hear the word “cozy” you will probably hear answers like a crackling fire, snow, woolen socks, or a warm cup of tea.
Personally, I enjoy coziness all year round, and I hope by the end of our time together here you will have some ideas on how to cultivate your own cozy in the spring and summer months.
Welcoming the New Season
As the weather warms up and the flowers start to bloom, it’s time to ease our homes into those bright and airy spaces that welcome the sunshine, transitioning from cozy winter retreats.
Just because we’re bidding farewell to the colder season doesn’t mean we have to give up comfort. You can make your home feel just as cozy in the spring and summer as it did during the winter months.
Here are some tips to help you welcome the new season.
Transitioning From Winter to Spring
The first step in welcoming the new season is to do a little spring cleaning. Less clutter equals more cozy in my mind. If you are anything like me, you might find it difficult to relax and recharge in a cluttered space. I find it makes me edgy and grumpy which is definitely anti-cozy.
I like to start by decluttering and getting rid of any items that we no longer need or use. Sort items into 3 bags or boxes: trash, donate, and storage. This helps to create a more open and airy space.
Next, I like to switch out my winter decor for more spring-inspired pieces. This could be as simple as swapping heavy blankets for lighter throw blankets or adding fresh flower bouquets to your decor. I also like to incorporate lighter colors and natural textures like wood, wicker, and rattan.
Embracing the Summer Warmth
Moving into the summer season, it’s all about embracing the warmth and that glorious sunshine. I like to open up my windows and let in as much natural light and fresh air as possible. This not only helps to brighten up my space but also freshens things up. Nothing says summertime cozy like a gentle summer breeze.
Embrace the summer warmth by incorporating outdoor elements into your home decor. This could be as simple as adding some potted plants or bringing in some beachy accents. I also like to switch out my bedding for lighter fabrics and brighter colors to create a more summery feel.
By following these simple tips, you can easily transition your home from winter to spring and summer and create a cozy and inviting space that you’ll love spending time in. Read on for more ideas to cozy up your living spaces.

Adding Natural Touches
As the weather warms up, adding natural touches to your home can make it feel more cozy and inviting. Here are a few ways to incorporate natural elements into your decor.
Incorporating Fresh Flowers and Plants
One of the easiest ways to add a natural touch to your home is by incorporating fresh flowers and plants. You can place a vase of fresh flowers on your dining table or kitchen counter to add a pop of color. If you have a green thumb, you can also add live plants to your home. Not only do they bring life and color to your space, but they also help purify the air.

Utilizing Natural Light
Open up your curtains and blinds to let in as much natural light as possible. If you have a balcony or patio, consider adding some outdoor furniture to create a cozy space to enjoy the sunshine. You can also add some sheer curtains to your windows to diffuse the light and create a soft, inviting atmosphere.
Cozy Textiles and Fabrics
As the weather warms up, it’s time to swap out heavy fabrics and blankets for lighter textiles that will make your home feel cozy and comfortable in the spring and summer months.
Swapping Out Heavy Blankets
One of the easiest ways to make your home feel cozy in the spring and summer is to swap out heavy blankets for lightweight throws.
Choose natural fibers like cotton or linen, which will breathe well and keep you cool on warm nights. I like to keep a few throws draped over the back of my sofa or armchair for easy access when I want to curl up with a book or movie.
Refreshing Pillow Covers
Another way to add cozy texture to your home is by updating your pillow covers. Swap out heavy fabrics for lighter options like linen or cotton.
You can also mix and match patterns and textures to create a cozy, layered look. I like to keep a few extra pillow covers on hand so I can switch them out seasonally or whenever I want to refresh my decor.
Incorporating cozy textiles and fabrics into your home decor is an easy and affordable way to make your space feel warm and inviting.
Whether you’re swapping out heavy blankets for lightweight throws or refreshing your pillow covers with new patterns and textures, these simple updates will help you create a cozy and comfortable home that you’ll love spending time in.
Decorative Accents and Accessories
As the weather warms up, it’s time to refresh your home decor to match the season. Here are some tips on how to use decorative accents and accessories to bring a pop of color and a fresh, new season to your space.
Integrating Seasonal Decorations
Spring and summer are the perfect seasons to incorporate seasonal decorations into your home decor.
I like to use natural elements, such as fresh flowers, and greenery, or wicker or rattan. These items can add a touch of the outdoors to your space and make it feel more connected to nature.
Cultivate a Fresh Dining Experience

Dressing Up the Dining Table
The dining table is the centerpiece of any dining room, and I like to ensure it looks cozy and fun.
One easy way to do this is by adding a tablecloth or table runner in a light and airy fabric like linen or cotton. I also like to use placemats and cloth napkins in coordinating colors or patterns.
To add some natural elements to the table, I often incorporate fresh greenery or cut flowers in a vase as a centerpiece. Or consider adding a decorative bowl filled with seasonal fruits, such as lemons or oranges.
This not only adds a pop of color but also makes your living room feel fresh and inviting.
Refreshing the Dining Room Atmosphere
In addition to dressing up the dining table, I also like to refresh the overall atmosphere of the dining room.
One simple way to do this is by opening up the windows and letting in some fresh air and natural light.
To add some extra coziness, I like to incorporate soft lighting with candles or string lights. This creates a comfy, cozy ambiance that is perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family.
By cultivating a fresh dining experience, I can create an inviting atmosphere in my home, no matter the season.
With a few simple touches like fresh greenery, soft lighting, and coordinating table linens, I can transform my dining room into a welcoming space that is perfect for entertaining or simply enjoying a meal with loved ones.

Thrifty Finds and Vintage Charm
One way to add character and warmth to your space without breaking the bank is by incorporating thrifty finds and vintage pieces.
Here are a few tips on how to do it:
Exploring Thrift Stores for Unique Pieces
One of my favorite ways to find unique pieces for my home is by visiting thrift stores. Not only can you find great deals, but you can also find one-of-a-kind items that will add character to your space.
When shopping at thrift stores, keep an open mind and think outside the box. Look for smaller pieces like vases, candle holders, and picture frames that can be easily incorporated into your decor.
Incorporating Vintage Pieces for Character
Vintage pieces are a great way to add charm and character to your home. Whether it’s a vintage rug, a piece of artwork, or a piece of furniture, vintage items can add a sense of history and personality to your space.
When incorporating vintage pieces, it’s important to balance them with modern elements to keep your space feeling fresh and the right balance of modern.
For example, if you have a vintage rug, pair it with a modern sofa or coffee table. This will create a balanced and cohesive look that feels timeless.
Creating an Inviting Outdoor Space
As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to start enjoying your outdoor space. Here are some tips on how to create an inviting outdoor space that will make you want to spend all your time outside.
Enjoying Your Backyard Retreat
Creating a backyard retreat is all about making your outdoor space feel like a place where you can relax and unwind.
Consider adding a hammock piled with pillows and blankets or a comfortable seating area where you can read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee.
You can also add a fire pit to create a cozy space where you can gather with friends and family. Nothing says cozy like smores in the backyard.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the natural world around you. Use your outdoor space as an opportunity to connect with nature by bird watching, stargazing, or simply enjoying the fresh air.
So, grab a book, and a cold drink, and get cozy!
