Beginner Homemaking Made Simple: Easy Tips for a Clean and Organized Home

First and foremost, it’s important to define what homemaking means to you. For some, it may be strictly about keeping a clean and organized home. For others, it may include more creative endeavors like DIY projects and home decor. Once you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve through homemaking, you can begin to prioritize and set goals.

Another key aspect of beginner homemaking is home management. This includes everything from creating a cleaning schedule to budgeting for household expenses. By establishing routines and systems for managing your home on a daily basis, you can reduce stress and create a more efficient and enjoyable living space. With a little bit of effort and dedication, anyone can become a confident and capable homemaker.

Homemaking Basics

What is Homemaking?

As a homemaker, I believe that homemaking is the art of creating a comfortable and welcoming home for yourself and your loved ones. It involves a range of tasks, including cleaning every room, cooking nutritious meals, organizing everything, and decorating. The life of a homemaker is not just about keeping your home clean and tidy, but also about creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home.

Homemaking Hints

I know, most people say blah and roll their eyes when they hear the word routine. Using “rhythm” kind of softens the blow, but we allll know it’s just routine with a little more of a free spirit vibe. But hear me out, Once a routine hater, i’m now a believer. Don’t think of routines as suffocating structure but as a way to streamline your homemaking process. Do this and you spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying the rest of life.

Homemaking Routines

One of the most important aspects of homemaking is establishing a routine that works for you. Good daily routines broken down into morning, afternoon, and nighttime can help you stay organized and keep a cozy and clean home. Some basic homemaking routines that you can establish include:

  • Daily cleaning: This involves cleaning up after yourself and doing basic tasks like washing dishes, wiping down the kitchen counter, cleaning out the kitchen sink, washing a load of laundry, and sweeping the floors.
  • Weekly cleaning: This involves more detailed cleaning tasks like vacuuming, mopping, and dusting.
  • Meal planning and meal preparation: Planning your meals in advance can help you save time and money at the grocery store and in general. Planning will also ensure that you always have something healthy and delicious to eat.
  • Laundry: Establishing a routine for doing laundry can help you stay on top of this never-ending task.

Homemaking Skills

Homemaking requires a range of necessary skills, some of which are old-fashioned and traditional, while others are more modern. Some basic homemaking skills that you can develop include:

  • Cleaning: Knowing how to clean effectively and efficiently is essential for keeping your home clean and tidy.
  • Cooking: Preparing healthy and delicious meals for your family is an important part of homemaking.
  • Organizing: Keeping your home organized and clutter-free can help reduce stress and make your home more welcoming.
  • Decorating: Adding personal touches to your home can help create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Homemaking skills are not only about the daily tasks necessary to run a home. Maintaining the tools needed to complete those tasks is important as well. Regularly cleaning your vacuum, dishwasher, and washing machines is so important to keep these machines running smoothly for a longer time.

By establishing routines and developing basic homemaking skills, you can create a comfortable and tidy home for yourself and your loved ones.

Encouragement and Support

As someone who was a beginner in homemaking when I got married, I understand that it can be overwhelming and discouraging at times. And though it may seem that a homemaker’s job is never done, I want to encourage you that you are not alone in this journey.

Homemaking is Hard

Firstly, it’s important to understand that homemaking is hard work. It is a skill that takes time and practice to develop. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you make mistakes or things don’t turn out perfectly. Remember that every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Household tasks and care of the home is a full-time job. So is being a stay-at-home mom. So at any given moment, it may feel like you are working multiple full-time jobs because you are. But my goal is to find a way to make this work more efficient and effective so that you can have more joy and more cozy in your home.

If you’re feeling discouraged, reach out to friends or family members who can offer support and encouragement. You can also join online communities (like this one!) or forums where other homemakers share their experiences and offer advice.

What Motivates You to Get the Job Done?

Another way to stay motivated is to set realistic goals for yourself. Break down larger tasks into smaller, more manageable ones. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. Successful homemakers are the ones who can celebrate their wins and learn from their losses. That’s it. You don’t need a perfect Instagram-worthy house with the charm and entertaining skills of Martha Stewart (I mean come on, she’s an icon! No one can compare to that!)

How to Make Homemaking Enjoyable

You will view your home and homemaking as a good thing (see what I did there?) when you find what motivates you, ditch the doubt thoughts (i cant do this, my house will never be, i’m no good at this, etc.), and find systems to make your home run like a finely tuned machine. Then all that extra time you have with less stress can be devoted to the things you love and to making your home a cozy haven.

Finally, remember that it’s okay to ask for help. Don’t be afraid to reach out to professionals or experts in the field for guidance and support. There are also many resources available, such as books, podcasts, and online courses, that can help you develop your skills and knowledge.

Don’t be discouraged if you’re a beginner in homemaking. Remember that it takes time and practice to develop your skills, and there are many resources and communities available to support you. Set realistic goals, celebrate your accomplishments, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I’d love to help and support you in this journey.
